The OXIP Moot brings students from all over the world to Oxford University for the only international student competition on intellectual property rights. Students prepare written submissions on a current IP problem, and teams are selected for the oral rounds in an initial screening by the judges.

The uOttawa team defeated some of the most prestigious teams from India, the United Kingdom, and the United States, falling only narrowly in their opening moot to the defending champions from Australia. In the quarter and semi-final elimination rounds the team moved past the University of Western Ontario, winners of the 2012 Harold G. Fox Canadian Intellectual Property Moot, and then the University of Cambridge, before winning in the finals over National Law University, Delhi.

Alexandra, Abigail and John not only took top honours in the entire competition but also, separately were awarded the runner-up for best written submissions. In addition, Alexandra was recognized with a top-5 speaker prize.

The team was profiled in the March 30, 2013 edition of the Ottawa Citizen.

Congratulations to Alexandra, Abigail and John on their great success!
